A LITTLE girl found hanging by her neck from a backyard swing has made an amazing recovery.

Zoey Baillie was severely injured in the freak backyard accident last week and flown to hospital in a critical condition.

But police last night said the three-year-old “has made a remarkable recovery in hospital, much to the joy of her family”.

Zoey was playing on the swing with her mother Shanah Grandison at a property in Koumala, south of Mackay, last Thursday when her mum briefly turned away to feed some animals.

When she turned back, Ms Grandison found her daughter unconscious, with the rope from the swing wrapped around her daughter’s neck.

Relatives and emergency workers praised the efforts of Zoey’s mum, who battled frantically to resuscitate her daughter and save her life until medical crews arrived at the Koumala Bolingbroke Rd property.

A spokesman from the Townsville Hospital last night confirmed Zoey was in a stable condition.

A family member told The Courier-Mail: “Zoey’s doing fine. She has complete co-ordination in her limbs,” he said.

“As far as we’re concerned, there could not be a better outcome.”

Zoey’s family have extended their gratitude to all those involved in her recovery and thanked friends for their support.

Hundreds of people shared the news on Facebook last night after the Queensland Police Service issued a brief statement thanking the community.

“A good news story to brighten your Thursday,” the statement read.

“QPS would like to wish her a speedy recovery and thank the local community for their ongoing support.”
